The New America (Blog post 3, Artist Shepard Failey)

This is the new America. Clickbait articles, misleading media, biased news outlets, corrupt politicians, subliminal messaging placed all throughout society - they always existed. From the birthplace of independence, America was never a Utopia - it had its flaws. It's imperfections. Until now it had been controlled. The people had the right to protest corruption, to fight and defend their freedom. If there was an imbalance of power, it was kept among the right of the Americans to expose the injustice to society. Until eventually, the people stopped caring. Respected news outlets were publicly ousted for their governmental bias, and in turn American citizens flocked to the internet for their consumption in news. Falsifying articles and improper information flooded the web. Americans stopped asking questions and followed what they saw. Did some people see what was about to come? Of course, but with clever marketing and well-researched propaganda, those who questioned biased media were ousted and degraded among society as either mentally-ill individuals or attention seekers. Companies became so successful they had the funds to form monopolies. Google now supplies the only necessary supplies. They run the only Universities, Vehicles, food, computers, televisions, entertainment, phones, and much more in America. There is no need for another company. Pictures of the infamous "Google" logo are kept all throughout Americans homes, which of course, are sold and made by Google. For decades the youth stopped caring, and as they aged to young adults they were baffled at the thought of paying attention to politics. They just accepted what was happening. Anyone who protested the corporatocracy of Google were outed as mentally ill. They went to a school made by google, learning things made by google. When someone Googled “what is freedom in America” Google would say 'working for Google'. Those who were old enough to remember what America used to be like were labeled insane, put in jails made by Google. Google watches everything, they know what Americans are looking up on the Internet, what they do at work, in school, in their own cars. Everywhere you walk a large poster is placed throughout, saying “OBEY, never trust your own eyes, believe what you are told.” On every website or video, one watches this message played right next to it. Google News insists that the human mind is incapable of remembering definite details. From all the things someone may seem in a day, it is incredibly easy to mix and match different things. Americans have been convinced that their own mind, their own eyes, are no longer trust worthy. It is up to the superior and all knowledgeable cooperation of Google to inform them of their every move, every detail of what they did. The punishment of disobeying what someone is told is quite cruel – immediate death. Eventually, all Americans became the same. They thought the same idea’s, the same values, the same information. Those who googled words like “independent thinkers” or “What do I believe in” were flagged and brain-washed to the uniform ways of Google. Google determines what someone shall be told. Google is the thinker, and the people are the followers. Google is what Americans must trust. This, is the new America.
